Whakapuni Station Garden

Whakapuni Station is a vibrant sheep and beef farm located in South Wairarapa, just a short 20-minute drive from Martinborough. Andy and Bridget Mathewson acquired the property in 2008, and it has undergone a remarkable transformation since then. The homestead, built in 1931, features a garden that beautifully combines both old and new elements, creating delightful surprises at every turn.

The formal gardens showcase a variety of flowers, including roses, hydrangeas, delphiniums, lavenders, and peonies, all framed by buxus and teucrium hedges. Additionally, modern topiaries and sculptures have been thoughtfully integrated into the newly designed courtyard surrounding the house.

In the coming five years, the new plantings are anticipated to mature, further enhancing the gardens with more formal hedging, topiary, and a harmonious blend of country cottage and traditional English garden styles.
