Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden

Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens, located in Roodepoort, was established in 1982, although it has attracted visitors for leisure since the 1800s. The gardens are framed by the stunning sugarbush ridges, from which the beautiful Witpoortjie falls flow into the grounds. Close to the waterfalls, you can find a nesting area for the famous Verreaux’s eagles from Roodekraans, which have gained a following on social media worldwide. This nest is believed to be over 80 years old. The sugarbush ridges are adorned with rocky highveld grassland, supporting more than 600 plant species, including the rare Albertina Sisulu Orchid.
