The Rusty Acre is the residence of sculptor Allan O"Loughlin and his partner Andrea, located just 25 minutes north of Christchurch in the charming settlement of Mandeville.
Since its inception in 1993, this once-bare paddock has transformed into a stunning outdoor gallery featuring an impressive collection of over 70 steel sculptures scattered throughout the two-acre garden. From a whimsical fairy climbing a tree to a woman picking a flower and a man riding a penny farthing, there’s something captivating for everyone to enjoy.
Meandering walkways guide you through a visual delight, leading you through various garden rooms, around two serene ponds, and past a vibrant vegetable and herb garden as well as an orchard. The diverse plantings include rhododendrons, camellias, cornus, specialty trees, climbing plants, roses, hostas, perennials, and much more.
