The UNESCO Intangible Heritage of Humanity list showcases the finest examples of performing arts, festive celebrations, rituals, and various cherished traditions. In 2012, UNESCO recognized La Fiesta de los Patios, an event that has its roots in 1921. Every May, the residents of Córdoba transform their patios into vibrant displays of flowers and pots, hanging them from walls or placing them on the ground. The celebration features courtyards from historic palaces and significant religious sites, including the Patio de los Naranjos, the synagogue, and the Santuario de la Fuensanta, as well as the Palacio de Viana, which is home to twelve uniquely styled courtyards. During the festival"s first week, courtyard owners vie for the Courtyards and Crosses award, organized by the Town Hall. The patios also come alive with traditional music and flamenco dancing, all enjoyed with local Montilla-Moriles wine and tasty tapas.
