Taupo Museum - Ora Garden

The stunning gold medal-winning entry from New Zealand at the renowned Chelsea Flower Show in May 2004 has been beautifully reconstructed and replanted at the Taupo Museum, situated conveniently near the main shopping area. This garden, called '100% Pure New Zealand Ora - Garden of Wellbeing,' showcases the collaborative creativity of six talented New Zealanders who were thrilled to receive a permanent space in a secure courtyard.

The original designers have recreated this exceptional native bush garden, complete with its geothermal landscape and the soothing sounds of birds, making it a living exhibit. Ora features nearly 1,000 native plants, including some that are endangered or hold significant importance to the region. Many of the plants were selected for their medicinal, culinary, and bird-attracting properties. The design incorporates Maori cultural elements, adding a unique charm to the garden. Visitors can discover the connection between nature and Maori culture, as each garden feature is named in Maori and closely tied to the local environment.
