🏛️ A Rich History

The garden was founded by the renowned botanist Carolus Clusius, who curated a diverse collection of plants, many of which were introduced from the Dutch East India Company’s expeditions. Under the direction of figures like Herman Boerhaave in the 18th century, the Hortus expanded significantly, doubling in size and becoming a hub for botanical study and education.
