Gwavas Garden was established in the 1880s by A.S.G. Carlyon. The current owner, Phyllida Gibson, is the fifth generation to manage Gwavas, and she and her husband Stuart reside in the homestead, which was constructed in 1890 and is nestled within 9 hectares of woodland garden. Since 1950, Phyllida’s father, Michael Hudson, has been dedicated to restoring, expanding, and planting the garden, including many unique plants he developed right at Gwavas. His gardening philosophy emphasizes that, while everything is intentionally planted, there should be minimal signs of human intervention, allowing the garden to reflect a natural woodland environment where plants can thrive freely.
