Experience the breathtaking combination of exotic trees and native New Zealand plants that adorn our lovely garden at Government House Garden Auckland. With roots tracing back to the 1870s, many of our grand trees are beautifully set against the backdrop of original lava formations and local flora that shape the landscape.
The house, constructed in 1921 by Sir Frank and Lady Mappin, exemplifies a seamless blend of natural elements, established trees, and thoughtfully chosen new plantings. Take pleasure in the garden they nurtured over a span of 45 years.
In 1966, the Mappins generously donated this remarkable home and garden to the Crown, designating it as a vice-regal residence. Our committed garden committee tirelessly works to preserve the garden’s original charm, skillfully managing the challenges posed by a climate that encourages vibrant growth.
