Trsteno Arboretum

Established in 1492 by the noble Gučetić family, the Trsteno Arboretum is the oldest collection of cultivated flora in Croatia and one of the oldest in the world. This 28-hectare Renaissance masterpiece, located just north of Dubrovnik, seamlessly blends a historic park, a lush forest, and a stunning 15th-century villa, famously serving as a filming location for the “Red Keep” gardens in Game of Thrones.

Highlights:

🌳 Ancient Giants: Marvel at the two colossal Oriental Plane trees at the entrance, which are over 500 years old, 50 meters tall, and stand as the iconic guardians of the arboretum.

Neptune’s Fountain: Discover the breathtaking Baroque fountain of Neptune and the Nymphs, where the soothing sound of water and the sight of ancient aqueducts create a serene, mythical atmosphere.

🌍 Global Botanical Heritage: Explore a rich collection of exotic plants brought back by sea captains over centuries, ranging from towering palms and bamboo to rare Mediterranean cacti and citrus groves.
