It is mentioned in the writings of Joseph Pitton de Tournefort from 1701 and is also featured on the Tbilisi map created by Prince Vakhushti in 1735. The garden saw a revival in the early 19th century and was officially recognized as the Tiflis Botanical Garden in 1845.
