Miramare Castle & Park

Perched on a cliff overlooking the Gulf of Trieste, the Miramare Castle and its lush 22-hectare park are like steps into another world. Built in the mid-1800s as the residence of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg, this place is a living blend of history, botany, art and seaside romance.

Highlights:

The castle itself, built from 1856-1860, still furnished in its original style. Private chambers, regal halls, elegant seafront architecture.

A spectacular park (on the promontory of Grignano), that was originally a barren rocky karst, transformed into gardens full of exotic botanical specimens, romantic paths, fountains, ponds and scenic viewpoints.

The Castelletto (a smaller “garden house”), historic greenhouses, the Duke’s bath by the sea, scenic terraces and much more.
