Whangārei Quarry Gardens is a lush subtropical paradise developed by volunteers in the remains of an old stone quarry located in Te Tai Tokerau (Northland) Aotearoa (New Zealand).
The Quarry Gardens are a stunning sub-tropical haven located in the center of Whangarei. Since the 1990s, this area has been transformed from a neglected commercial quarry into the vibrant garden we see today, thanks to the hard work of local volunteers and gardeners. As a dynamic community project, it keeps evolving, providing fresh experiences with each visit.
Spanning approximately 60 acres, there"s so much to explore! You can find a serene lake, beautiful waterfalls, historic ruins, a charming stream, various permanent sculptures, numerous picnic spots, and a diverse array of fascinating plants. There are also lovely bush walks that lead into the nearby Pukenui Forest. Additionally, the gardens feature a visitor center, a gift shop, plant sales, the Quail Café, and ample parking, including three wheelchair-accessible spaces behind the visitor center.
