KwaZulu–Natal National Botanical Garden

The KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden offers a serene green oasis right at the edge of the central business district in Pietermaritzburg, the capital of KwaZulu-Natal. Established in 1874 primarily for cultivating tree seedlings, the garden now emphasizes the rich and diverse plant life found in South Africa’s eastern grasslands, with a special focus on genera like Clivia, Gerbera, Kniphofia, and Watsonia. Visitors can explore various themed areas, including the Zulu demonstration garden, plane tree avenue, cycad garden, permaculture garden, and clivia dam. Today, the KwaZulu-Natal NBG is designed with wildlife in mind, attracting over 150 species of birds, along with features like an insect hotel.
